Hundred Years Gallery
For our third gig we were hosted by the delightful team at Hundred Years Gallery for an evening of intimate and enchanting music which included 7 world premieres!
The evening kicked off with Echoes unplugged by Carlo Alessandro Landini a vibrant and fiery work for solo violin. Jenn Kirby's Extensions duo for live electronics performed by the composer and double bass - an explorative work based around gesture and dialouge between performers. Next up was Generic Composition No.7 by Christopher Fox for solo saxophone (baritone) based around unstable tones which was partnered by a baritone sax and double bass free improvisation. Matt London's violin and double bass duo Herbig-Haro a hybrid graphic score followed with the performers demonstrating virtuoso skill in bringing the score to life. The half ended with a special premiere of Invitation Card to Giuseppe for solo violin by the late Sir Peter Maxwell Davies a sumptuous miniature invoking images of the Orkney Islands!
Megan Steinberg's striking and visceral work Gradient for alto flute and turntable (performed by the composer) opened the second half in sprightly fashion. Cadenza a stylish and fluid solo violin work by Alessandro Viale followed paving the way for some quiet music by Fitan O'Hare - Unknot an untangling pair of fragile lines, through repetition and gradual change for alto flute and tenor saxophone. Next saw a return to the stage for our electronic performer-composers guests for an animated free improv duo. To end the night the full ensemble came together to perform Seth Bennett's harmonious and passionate Threnody for the English Polity with feverish outbusts!
